Junior Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery (ST1/2 equivalent) – NHS

An opportunity has arisen for qualified, and GMC registered medical doctors interested in gaining further surgical experience. The successful candidate will cover both elective and emergency adult neurosurgery and spinal conditions working on wards, theatres, ICU/HDU and emergency department.

This role is an excellent opportunity for junior doctors who aspire to become neurosurgeons, interventional neuro-radiologists, neurologists, neuro-oncologists or neuropathologists.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
 First point of contact for nurses regarding patient concerns on the wards
 Manage and document ward rounds and complete necessary tasks including clear and
concise patient handover to colleagues
 Liaise with staff including nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists to ensure appropriate
patient care
 Attend theatre
 Attend departmental teaching

Learning and Development
 Attend mandatory training updates as required.
 Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed
with the line manager as part of the personal development process.
 Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development
within agreed timescales.
 Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager
 Participate in the Trust’s appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the
best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.

Experience/ Qualifications
Essential
  • Basic medical degree
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
Desirable
  • Higher Degree
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
Clinical Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 12 months post graduate medical experience
  • Understanding of clinical risk management

  • Experience within neurosurgery or neurosciences related specialities
